Politics and religion..
They call themselves righteous
The ignorant and self-annointed
Division is the bread they break upon the souls of the unelected
Sowing divorce for reason
Separating loves by definition
There are no Fences to hold back hope.
There are no fences in this Universe
That will block our Human Spirit
No gods or ghosts to fear
That will condemn us to be separate from each other
We will not be shackled to your superstitions;
Mindless obedience wrapped in words
Hiding behind ignorance of the destructive sounds
Those words make when they stab another Human Soul
There will be no retreat from the challenges
Pushing back the Justice of our minds
Blind, colorless, ageless, sexless and free
We will not be bound by your Fences of Indignity
So thump on your books
Shout your shallow prayers
Protecting you only from the darkness inside yourselves
Fenced in by callowness, devoid from the understanding of what you think you believe
We are not different in form, you and I
There is not an us and a them
There are only you and those you cauterize
With the scalding iron of your obtuseness
When you come for our brothers or our sisters
Sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, friends or neighbors
We will not move nor let you dissolve them
Into objects of your fears and ancient definitions
Prejudice will not end until you either learn or die unlearned
That you are not God and none would have you
For it is not that you do not know what you are doing
You are piercing the flesh of humankind once again and pouring on the vinegar of indifference
Get out your saws and hammers and nails
Fence posts and barbed wire and start building
For while we watch you toil your life away
We will all stand outside and watch your Fence of Intolerance
Surround and confine you, forever and ever. Amen.
The Song:
Verse 1
There are no fences in this Universe,
Blocking our spirit, can’t make it disperse.
No gods, no ghosts to keep us apart,
Nothing can sever the beat of the heart.
Verse 2
We won’t be shackled by superstition,
Mindless obedience, empty tradition.
Ignorance hides in the sound of the word,
Stabbing a soul every time it’s heard.
Chorus
We rise, unbound, we stand as one,
No fence can hold what we’ve begun.
Our spirit’s free, our voices strong,
Together forever — we all belong.
Verse 3
No retreat from the truth we find,
Justice beats inside our mind.
Blind, colorless, ageless, free,
No fences of indignity.
Verse 4
Thump on your books, shout your prayers,
But they only protect from the dark you bear.
Callow walls keep you confined,
Faith without love leaves you blind.
Verse 5
We are not different, you and I,
No “us” and “them,” that’s a lie.
You cauterize flesh with your iron cold,
But humankind won’t be bought or sold.
Verse 6
Come for our brothers, sisters, friends,
Sons, daughters — the line won’t bend.
We will not move, we won’t dissolve,
Your ancient fears, we won’t absolve.
Verse 7
Prejudice ends when you learn or die,
You are not God, stop living the lie.
You know the pain, you choose the blade,
Piercing the flesh with the hate you’ve made.
Verse 8 (Outro)
Get your saws, your nails, your wire,
Fence posts raised with empty fire.
We’ll watch you toil your life away,
Trapped in the cage you built today.
Chorus (Final)
We rise, unbound, we stand as one,
No fence can hold what we’ve begun.
Our spirit’s free, our voices strong,
Together forever — we all belong.
